Jericho Elementary Science Teacher Jacqueline O’Neill recently received the Anton Banko Award for Excellence in Teaching Elementary Science. This award recognizes an educator teaching in grades K-6 who is an outstanding teacher of science.
“Ms. O’Neill is an extremely passionate science educator. She provides her students with hands-on lab experiences that assist in solidifying scientific concepts and facilitate critical thinking at all levels,” said Robert Seaman Elementary School principal Ivy Sherman.
The award honors Anton Banko, an engineer who developed the first automated instruments and procedures used for intraocular microsurgery.
O’Neill will receive $1,500, which she plans on using to purchase new STEM materials and equipment for the children, and will be honored at an upcoming award ceremony.
