Grade K-5

A Guide for Parents

Jericho Public Schools is pleased to introduce a revised, standards-based report card for grades K-5 for the 2013/14 school year.  Our district’s elementary report card committee, consisting of teachers representing all grade levels, and administrators, has been working for over a year to produce a document that will more accurately reflect your child’s progress in learning the new standards.

This report card has been directly aligned with the new Common Core State Standards in ELA and mathematics, as well as revised social studies standards. As a result, the report card will more accurately reflect what is being taught and assessed in the classroom.

As you look at each report card, you will note that the report is grade specific, in line with Common Core grade requirements. World language, art, music, and PE, will be reported on the same report card form. Most importantly, each grade level report contains a third page which will further explain the specific standards for that grade level. Finally, the report card will be available online via the Parent Portal.

Our committee will be seeking parent feedback after the second publication of the new school report card, with a view towards revising it to further our goal of communicating clearly the alignment among instruction, assessment, and parent reporting.

Why is Jericho implementing a standards-based report card?

Students in the primary years begin school with various background experiences and knowledge.  Utilizing a standards-based report card gives students, parents, and teachers information about individual strengths and weaknesses as the students work to meet and exceed the standards each year.
