Although Long Island History Day was cancelled this year, New York State History Day (NYSHD) went on as a virtual event. Many hundreds of students from throughout New York submitted projects in modified formats. Research projects that placed first or second in their category will be advancing to National History Day (NHD). NHD will also be virtual.
Jericho’s Social studies teachers assisted students who chose to continue working in this remote environment. “Special recognition should be given to social studies teacher Theresa Cantwell and middle school librarian Valerie Mignone-Conklin who assisted all Jericho students who participated in NYSHD,” said Dr. Eric Sundberg, Curriculum Associate for Social Studies, Business and Libraries. “These results are directly related to the willingness of educators to provide ongoing assistance and feedback to our students. As always, extraordinary results come from the willingness of students and teachers to go beyond ordinary expectations.”
